Wet fume scrubbers can be used to remove chemical fumes or particles, including dust and also control chemical fumes during the tanker offload process, by using a scrubbing liquor to absorb them. The scrubbing liquor, typically water, sodium hydroxide or sulphuric acid, maximises contact with the gas to efficiently remove or neutralise the pollutants and particles.

Some of the chemicals that require fume scrubbing include:

• Hydrofluoric acid
• Nitric acid
• Ammonia solution
• Acetic acid
