The end of May saw the end of another Chem Resist era, after almost 44 years Barney (Richard Balmforth) retired. He joined on 1st June back in 1978; we look back.

“The name Barney comes from when I was about 8 years old, there was a guy a bit older than me, he started it off from my last name Balmforth and it stuck, so it’s always been Barney.”

“I do love a good gathering”

As we near the end of 2021, after 44 years at Chem Resist we’re celebrating the retirement of Seamus Quinn. We take a look back with him at his career, moving up North, rugby and singing…

‘I was born in 1953, came over from Ireland in 1955 to Plymouth in Devon, where for the next 20 years my parents ran pubs. Between 1973-75, I went to the University of London to study Biological Sciences (Chemistry and Biology) and I was also the Union Treasurer. Of course, coming from a family that had run pubs all their lives, they’d said to me, “The union bar does not make any money”, and I said, “That’s impossible!”. We then made so much money we were able to buy a minibus.

Third Time Lucky!

Tom Carroll re-joins the team

Ian Guest retires after 46 years at Chem Resist

After over 46 years of working at Chem Resist, our longest serving employee Ian Guest (pictured here with Simon and Odelle Hewitt and Seamus Quinn) is retiring on 25th February 2021. We talk to him about some of his memories and achievements since starting in August 1974.
