History Timeline


1964

Advanced Chemical Equipment (ACE) is founded by Arthur Armitage, a Textile Chemist and ex-RAF Officer.

1968

Arthur amalgamates his other business, Advanced Textile Engineering with ACE realising the future potential in plastic.

1968

1972

A small Plastic Fabrication division is established by Arthur.

1972

1976

The Plastic Fabrication division moves to Butt End Mills, Lower Hopton, Mirfield and starts to operate independently.

1976

1977

Seamus Quinn joins and quickly gets the title of ‘Worse Fabricator in History’.

1977

1979

Chem Resist Plastic Fabrications is registered and begins trading in 1980.

1979

1986

Fluid Transfer (FT) division founded, distributing a range of technologies specifically for corrosive and aggressive chemicals.

1986

1989

Chem Resist becomes the main trading name and the business moves to the current site, Britannia House, Lock Way in Ravensthorpe. Simon Hewitt joins as Technical Sales for FT and a distribution agreement with Almatec is signed.

1989

1990-1993

The Spiral Wound Manufacturing method is developed in conjunction with Cambridge University.

1990s

1993

A 7000ft2 building, custom extruder and former handling facility are added to the site in Lock Way. Meanwhile, Packed Tower Fume Scrubbing technology is developed.

1993

1994

A prototype Sulphuric Acid Dilution Unit is designed and manufactured in thermoplastics, which operates for 27 years.

1994

2003

Simon becomes Managing Director and Seamus moves to the role of Chairman.

2004

A distribution agreement with World Chemical is signed.

2007

Neil Williams joins the FT Division as Technical Sales.

2007

2008

Simon & Odelle purchase Chem Resist from Seamus, the Pipework Division is established and Stephan Menzer joins as Technical Manager.

2010

Odelle joins in the role of Commercial Director.

2010

2012

Progress Plus ERP implemented across the business.

2012

2014

The ChemiGuard range of Tanker Offload and Dosing Cabinets is launched.

2014

2015

Gary Smith joins as Sales Director for Process Plant.

2015

2020

‘Built with Integrity’ is introduced to the Chem Resist brand and communications.

2020

2021

A distribution agreement is signed with Munsch giving exclusivity in UK and Ireland.

2021

2022

A dedicated SHEQ Manager role is created, Mike Shoemark joins.

2022

2023

Investment in Chem Resist by Ross Shire Engineering.

2023

2024

Chem Resist celebrates its 60th Anniversary Year.
