Storing Sodium Hypochlorite
Sodium Hypochlorite is an alkaline inorganic chemical compound commonly known in its dilute aqueous solution (concentration less than 5%) as bleach or chlorine bleach, which is commonly found and used in most households as a cleaner and disinfectant.
Thermoplastics provide safe storage for Sodium Hypochlorite, due to their high levels of resistance and we have pioneered their use in chemical storage over the last 60 years. Our manufacturing method creates a homogenous structure containing no weak weld points allowing safe containment.
We have extensive experience in projects involving storage, dilution and transfer of Sodium Hypochlorite. We specialise in Thermoplastics, which make an ideal storage material as contact with metal causes a chemical reaction. Plus, we manufacture bunded storage tanks to provide additional storage safety in projects where civil bunds would be prohibitive.

Characteristics of Sodium Hypochlorite
Sodium Hypochlorite (NaCIO), has a strong odour of chlorine and is green/yellow in colour, it’s volatile and corrosive and demands storage away from heat and sunlight.
It’s used in a broad range of industries (concentrations up to 50%) including water treatment and food processing to clean and sterilise as it kills bacteria, fungi and viruses, it’s also used to bleach, removing colour in the textile and paper industries.

The Chem Resist team were really good to deal with, from initial sales enquiry to specification development, through to final design.
We had completed a Hazop study, which steered our design decisions and Chem Resist advised us how to achieve the recommendations in the study. We received drawings to review in good time and this process flowed through until final sign off. Once design was agreed, the Project manager communicated well to plan and schedule delivery.
The install of the tanks went to plan and then following this the Dosing pump and Tanker deliver cabinets were installed along with all process pipework. The Install team came prepared with all relevant information, Design drawings, MS and RA and completed the work on time to a high level of quality.
In summary, an all aspects, it’s been a pleasure to deal with Chem Resist on this project and I would recommend them.
