Goodbye to Barney

The end of May saw the end of another Chem Resist era, after almost 44 years Barney (Richard Balmforth) retired. He joined on 1st June back in 1978; we look back.

ā€œThe name Barney comes from when I was about 8 years old, there was a guy a bit older than me, he started it off from my last name Balmforth and it stuck, so itā€™s always been Barney.”

Our Commitment to Safety, Quality and the Environment

As part of our ongoing continuous improvement programme, a new role has been created at Chem Resist; Health and Safety Manager.

Simon Hewitt, Managing Director explains, ā€œOver the last 18 months weā€™ve experienced a period of very strong growth across all our divisions, weā€™ve also achieved ISO 45001 to sit alongside our existing 9001 (Quality) and 14001 (the Environment) accreditations. “I do love a good gathering”

As we near the end of 2021, after 44 years at Chem Resist weā€™re celebrating the retirement of Seamus Quinn. We take a look back with him at his career, moving up North, rugby and singingā€¦

ā€˜I was born in 1953, came over from Ireland in 1955 to Plymouth in Devon, where for the next 20 years my parents ran pubs. Between 1973-75, I went to the University of London to study Biological Sciences (Chemistry and Biology) and I was also the Union Treasurer. Of course, coming from a family that had run pubs all their lives, theyā€™d said to me, ā€œThe union bar does not make any moneyā€, and I said, ā€œThatā€™s impossible!ā€. We then made so much money we were able to buy a minibus.
