Service is the key to Holchem’s success
“Once we find a good company we tend to stay with them...”
So says Gary Featherstone of Holchem Laboratories in Rossendale, and Chem Resist are proud to be a storage tank supplier to what is probably the UK’s foremost detergents and hygiene company serving the UK food industry...
Formed in 1982 to supply detergents and disinfectants primarily to the brewing and food processing industry, Holchem’s sustained expansion over the years allows customers a “one stop shop” facility of being able to order almost every conceivable hygiene consumable and chemical for a modern food processing plant.
Double-digit growth
With over 1000 “blue-chip” customers Holchem is securely established as a market leader and, significantly, in only 2 years of its 27 year history has the family owned business failed to produce double digit growth.
Chem Resist were chosen for the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of a complete storage and mixing plant for the majority of the company’s highvolume cleansing products. The new system gives Holchem increased capacity, allowing them to cope more efficiently with high-demand “spikes” at particular times of the year.
Gary professes himself very happy with Chem Resist’s product quality and rates the service and back-up as being very good.
“Service is key”, he says “particularly as we’re in the service industry ourselves; it’s hugely important”.
Consultants
Expanding on the service concept, Gary explains that Holchem has grown way beyond a simple detergent provider - now being invited into discussions when a new food factory, for example, is at the very early planning stage:-
“We’ve really developed into consultants, on a wider scale, and can say ‘Let’s show you exactly how to keep your factory clean - we’ll give you the logistics and the support teams we have to help you’. And we can do that with confidence”.
Tanks to Turnkey
Drawing on the analogy with Chem Resist, Gary says he doesn’t want to be buying product A from here and product B from there and then finding someone else to put it all together:-
“I want to buy the whole package and Chem Resist do that - just as we do for our clients. Everything from a tank to a turnkey project”.
He concluded:-
“Companies supplying Holchem and organisations like us need to make it easy for us to buy from them. The food industry is getting more competitive by the day - with margins becoming tighter as consumers push for more and more value at store level. This feeds right through the supply chain and the successful suppliers will be those we trust to meet our requirements - with minimum fuss!”
